Tattoo Aftercare
Remove your bandage after at least one hour. DO NOT re-bandage your tattoo.
Gently wash your tattoo with warm soapy water 3 times per day. We recommend Dial soap*. Please use your hands to wash your tattoo. DO NOT use a washcloth, loofah, or sponge. Pat dry your tattoo using a paper towel. DO NOT rub your tattoo dry with a towel.
After drying, apply ointment to your tattoo. We recommend Vitamin A&D ointment, Tattoo Goo, and/or Redemption. In some cases your artist may recommend using Saniderm. Depending on which product/method you use please follow the specific instructions listed below:
-
- Vitamin A&D ointment: gently apply a thin layer 3 times a day for the next 3 days (VERY thin. You do not want your tattoo to appear shiny or greasy). After the third day switch to a fragrance and dye free lotion. Apply lotion as often as possible. We recommend Curel or Lubriderm*.
*We care about the quality of the products we use, as well as the quality of your tattoo. We suggest these products but please check the ingredients for any allergen you may be susceptible to.
-
- Tattoo Goo: gently apply a thin layer 3 to 4 times a day for 7 to 10 days or until the skin returns to normal.
- Redemption: gently massage a thin layer evenly into your tattoo. Apply a small amount 2-3 times daily for 10-14 days.
- Saniderm: keep Saniderm bandage on for 24 hours.
From the Saniderm website: “It’s now been 24 hours and you’re ready to remove your first bandage and reapply a second:
-
- Under warm running water (we always recommend removing Saniderm in the shower), find an upper corner of the bandage and start slowly pulling it back over itself like how you would peel a banana from the top down.
- Clean the tattoo with warm water and a gentle, fragrance-free product such as our Foam Soap.
- Pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel and allow 5-10 minutes for it to fully air dry.
- Apply your next Saniderm bandage.
- Keep this second bandage on for an additional 3-5 days. Remove if you experience any discomfort and continue open-healing with our collection of Tattoo Aftercare Balms.”
*Some people may choose to not reapply a second bandage and start using tattoo aftercare for the next 10-14 days.
DO NOT SCRATCH, RUB, or PICK AT ANY SCABS. Doing so can remove some of the pigment leading to your tattoo missing spots. You don’t want that to happen and neither do we!
DO NOT SOAK YOUR TATTOO EXCESSIVELY (this means swimming and taking baths). Getting your tattoo wet in the shower is fine but avoid submerging your tattoo under water for at least 2 weeks.
After your tattoo is healed, use a sunblock containing SPF-30 or higher when your tattoo is exposed to the sun for long periods of time. This will help prevent your tattoo from fading.
IF AT ANY POINT YOU SUSPECT YOU ARE EXPERIENCING ANY TYPE OF ALLERGIC REACTION OR INFECTION PLEASE CONTACT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL IMMEDIATELY.
